Quick answer
Can removable jackets be made for pumps, strainers and heat exchangers?
Yes. Bespoke removable jackets are patterned to the exact shape of pumps, strainers, heat exchangers and other irregular fittings, so insulation is taken off for maintenance and refitted in minutes. That keeps the equipment insulated between services instead of being stripped and left bare, protecting energy and personnel.
Why are removable jackets used on pumps and heat exchangers?
Pump bodies, strainer baskets and heat exchanger ends have complex shapes that rigid insulation cannot follow. They are also opened regularly for service, so fixed insulation is cut away and rarely replaced. Removable jackets are shaped to the fitting and refitted after each service.
What materials are they made from?
Jackets are typically a mineral wool or needle-mat core for thermal and acoustic performance, faced with a silicone or PTFE-glass fabric for temperature and weather resistance, and closed with hook-and-loop or buckle fastenings. The core thickness is set by the surface temperature and the required safe-touch or energy target.
How are they patterned to the equipment?
Each jacket is templated on the actual fitting, so it follows flanges, foot mounts and connection pipes without gaps. Draw cords or tags fix it in place, and the jacket is labelled so the same one goes back on the same fitting after service.
When is this better than rigid insulation?
Where equipment is serviced at least annually — pumps, heat exchangers, strainers, expansion vessels — a removable jacket pays for itself within a few services by avoiding the waste of cut rigid insulation. Rigid insulation remains the right choice for pipework and straight runs that are never opened.
How long do removable jackets last?
A well-made jacket lasts several years of repeated removal and refitting. The fabric face can be wiped down, and damaged jackets can be repaired or re-templated without replacing the whole set. That keeps the insulation performing over the life of the plant.
