Removable Valve Jacket Insulation for Plant Rooms

Removable valve jackets keep plant room fittings insulated without blocking maintenance access — measured, made and fitted as part of your M&E package.

Quick answer

Why do plant rooms need removable valve jackets?

Plant rooms pack valves, flanges and strainers into tight spaces where fixed insulation blocks routine maintenance. Removable valve jackets insulate every fitting yet lift off in seconds for servicing. SR Thermal Services measures on site, makes a jacket for each fitting and installs them as part of your mechanical package.

A plant room concentrates boilers, pumps, pressurisation units and distribution headers into a single enclosure. Valves and flanges sit shoulder to shoulder, often above head height or behind other services. Fixed insulation over these fittings has to be cut away for every gasket change or valve service — and once stripped, it rarely goes back.

Removable jackets solve that cycle. Each jacket is measured to the individual fitting and built with a quilted insulation core, a coated fabric outer and hook-and-loop or drawcord closures. An engineer can remove and refit one in seconds without tools, so the insulation is refitted after every visit and the energy saving becomes permanent.

We size jackets around the real geometry of the room: Y-strainers that need regular blowdown, flanged joints, pump volutes, flexible connectors and control valves with actuators. Every jacket is labelled to its location, so refitting after maintenance is unambiguous even for an engineer who has not seen the plant room before.

On chilled water and condensate lines, jackets are specified with a sealed vapour barrier to stop condensation forming on cold fittings. Pipework near louvres and roof penetrations gets the same treatment where frost is a risk, keeping the room dry and corrosion under control.

We work as a subcontractor to main contractors and M&E contractors across the UK. Quotations are prepared from your drawings, valve schedules and a free site survey where access allows — not from fixed online prices.

Frequently asked questions

Can you fit valve jackets while the plant room is live?

Yes, in most cases — jackets are fitted by hand without hot works, and we phase fitting around your maintenance windows. Any isolations are agreed with your mechanical contractor in advance.

Do you work from our M&E drawings and valve schedules?

Yes. We prepare the quotation from your issued drawings and valve schedules, then confirm every size with a site measure before manufacture.

Do you work nationwide?

Yes. We are based in Milton Keynes and deliver valve jacket packages across the UK as a subcontractor.

What are the jackets made from?

A quilted insulation core inside a coated, weather-resistant fabric outer, closed with hook-and-loop or drawcord. Materials and thicknesses follow the project specification and TICA guidance.

What standards do you work to?

We install to the project specification, with thicknesses based on BS 5422 and TICA guidance. Our teams hold CSCS and NVQ Thermal Insulation cards, with SSSTS and SMSTS supervision.

How are jackets quoted?

Per fitting, from your valve schedule and a site measure. You receive a written quotation listing every jacket by location before any manufacture starts.
