Ductwork Insulation for Data Centres
Thermal and condensation-control insulation for data centre ductwork — installed in phases around live halls, with cooling continuity protected throughout.
Quick answer
Why does data centre ductwork need specialist insulation?
Data centres move conditioned air continuously, so every metre of ductwork affects cooling efficiency and uptime. Insulation holds supply-air temperature and stops condensation on cold surfaces outside the halls. SR Thermal Services insulates CRAC and CRAH ductwork in live facilities, phased around your change-control process, nationwide.
Cooling in a data centre never pauses. Supply and return ductwork moves large air volumes between CRAC and CRAH units, containment aisles and the halls themselves. Thermal loss along that path becomes wasted cooling energy and tighter margins on rack inlet temperatures.
Cold air travelling through warm areas — service corridors, roof voids and external risers — will condense on any uninsulated surface. We insulate cold ductwork with a continuous sealed vapour barrier. Supports, flanges and access panels get particular attention, because that is where thermal bridging and leaks concentrate.
Most data centre projects run beside live halls. We phase the installation section by section under your change-control and permit process, so cooling capacity is never compromised. Materials are clean and low-lint to handle, and escorted access requirements are followed throughout.
Depending on the specification we install phenolic or mineral wool sections with foil-faced finishes, or closed-cell flexible insulation where space is tight. External and riser runs can be finished in aluminium cladding for durability. All materials come from the specified range — Kingspan, Rockwool, Isover and equivalent systems.
We work as a subcontractor to main contractors and M&E contractors on new builds and live-facility upgrades across the UK. Quotations are prepared from your issued mechanical drawings and specification, supported by a free site survey where access allows.
Frequently asked questions
Can you work in a live data hall?
Yes — we phase the work under your change-control process and never isolate cooling without approval. Containment, permits and escorted access arrangements are agreed before work starts.
Can you work from our mechanical drawings?
Yes. We quote directly from issued mechanical drawings and specifications. A free survey then confirms routes, supports and access before installation is programmed.
Do you work nationwide?
Yes. We are based in Milton Keynes and deliver data centre packages across the UK as a subcontractor to main contractors and M&E contractors.
What materials do you use on cold ductwork?
Phenolic or mineral wool sections with a sealed foil vapour barrier, or closed-cell flexible insulation where space is limited. The material and thickness always follow the project specification.
What standards do you work to?
We install to the project specification, with thicknesses and vapour sealing based on BS 5422 and TICA guidance. Teams hold CSCS and NVQ Thermal Insulation cards with SSSTS and SMSTS supervision.
How is the work quoted?
From your drawings and specification, with a site survey to confirm quantities and phasing. You receive a written, itemised quotation — we do not offer fixed online prices.
