External Insulation & Weatherproofing for Industrial Facilities
External pipework and ductwork insulation finished in aluminium cladding or PIB — built to survive weather, UV and plant traffic at industrial scale.
Quick answer
How is external industrial pipework insulated and weatherproofed?
External industrial pipework needs insulation that stays dry in wind-driven rain, UV and frost. SR Thermal Services insulates rooftop and gantry runs, then seals them in aluminium cladding, PIB or ProClad finishes. Work is phased around production and shutdown windows, delivered nationwide as a subcontractor.
Industrial sites push services outdoors. Process and services pipework crosses yards on gantries, runs along rooftops and feeds between buildings, with ductwork and fans mounted in the open. All of it is exposed to rain, UV, frost and mechanical knocks from maintenance traffic.
Water is the enemy of external insulation. Once moisture gets under the finish it sits against the pipe, destroying thermal performance and driving corrosion under insulation. Every termination, joint and support is sealed so water cannot track inside the system.
Finish selection follows the environment. Aluminium cladding, cut and beaded to fit, gives a hard-wearing skin for high-traffic areas. PIB and ProClad systems suit complex geometries and valve clusters. We install the specified system — Kingspan, Rockwool or Isover insulation beneath, with the specified weatherproof finish over it.
Programme on a live site is about windows. We phase work around production, planned shutdowns and permit requirements, and external runs can often be completed while systems stay live. Access by scaffold or MEWP is planned with your site team before we start.
We work as a subcontractor to main contractors and M&E contractors across the UK. Quotations are prepared from drawings, pipe schedules and specifications, with a free site survey to confirm routes, access and phasing.
Frequently asked questions
Can you work while the plant is running?
Yes, in most cases. External runs are often completed live, and anything needing an isolation is phased into a planned shutdown window agreed with your team.
Which weatherproof finish should we specify?
That is set by the project specification. Aluminium cladding suits high-traffic areas, while PIB and ProClad handle complex shapes — we install whichever system is specified.
Can you replace weathered or damaged external insulation?
Yes. We strip failed sections, check the pipe beneath for corrosion, and reinsulate and reseal to the current specification.
How do you handle access at height?
Access is planned with your site team before work starts — scaffold, MEWP or existing gantries. Our teams hold IPAF and PASMA certification for this work.
Do you work nationwide?
Yes. We are based in Milton Keynes and deliver external insulation packages across the UK as a subcontractor.
