Ductwork Insulation for Schools & Universities

Thermal and acoustic insulation for supply and extract ductwork across education estates — phased into school holidays and delivered with safeguarding-aware site conduct.

Quick answer

How is school ductwork insulation delivered around term time?

Schools need ductwork insulated for thermal performance and noise control, but the buildings stay occupied for most of the year. SR Thermal Services phases installation into holidays, half-terms and agreed out-of-hours windows, with safeguarding-aware site conduct throughout. Work is quoted from drawings and confirmed by a free survey.

Education buildings rely on supply and extract ventilation in classrooms, halls, kitchens and laboratories. Uninsulated ductwork loses heat in winter, gains it in summer and carries fan and airflow noise into teaching spaces. Thermal and acoustic insulation addresses all three.

Programme is the first constraint. The natural windows are school holidays and half-terms, and we plan packages to complete within them. Where work must run during term, we agree contained areas, out-of-hours working and access routes with the estates team before anything starts.

Site conduct in education settings follows safeguarding rules. Our teams work within the school's arrangements for supervision and access, hold CSCS cards, and are briefed on each site's procedures. DBS requirements are agreed with the client where the site asks for them.

Above-ceiling ductwork is the bulk of the work. We insulate with foil-faced mineral wool wrap or specified boards, sealed at joints, with acoustic treatment where the specification calls for it. External and rooftop runs are finished in weatherproof cladding or PIB.

We work as a subcontractor to main contractors and M&E contractors on new build, refurbishment and planned maintenance across education estates. Quotations come from your drawings and duct schedules, confirmed by a free survey.

Frequently asked questions

Can the work be completed in the school holidays?

Yes — holiday and half-term windows are how most education packages are programmed. We agree the scope against the window before starting, so the work finishes before term resumes.

Can you work during term time?

Yes, with planning. Work is phased into contained areas or out-of-hours slots, agreed with the estates team, so teaching is not disrupted.

What safeguarding arrangements do you follow?

We work within each school's safeguarding procedures for contractor access and supervision. Our teams hold CSCS cards, and DBS requirements are agreed with the client where the site requires them.

Do you insulate both thermally and acoustically?

Yes. Thermal insulation controls heat loss and condensation; acoustic treatment reduces fan and airflow noise. Both are installed to the project specification.

Do you work from our drawings?

Yes. Quotations are prepared from issued drawings and duct schedules, confirmed by a free site survey. We deliver education packages nationwide.
